A New Day

It’s a new day, and this is a new blog! Well, not really. It’s a new setup on a new server, entirely thanks to cevets and all his hard work migrating the old blog over to WordPress. Many, many thanks, cevets! The goal was to keep the aesthetics of the front end, while completely overhauling the back end. I’m still getting used to the new system, and everything that goes with it, so there may be a few hiccups until I figure it out.

You won’t have to update your bookmarks for the website, but if you were using the RSS feed to be notified when new posts were uploaded, please update your RSS feed link (also available in the sidebar on the right).

As far as you, long-time blog readers, are concerned, the move enables two developments.

First, a server-side database and increased internet speeds means that my days of text-only blogging are over. Look for more embedded media (where appropriate) going forward. That would be more exciting if we weren’t all stuck at home because of the pandemic, but let’s see how things go.

Second, you’ll see some differences if you try to access the archives. Previously, all posts were archived by month and required a password to access. A separate set of archives, by category, was published from time to time and was publicly available. Moving to WordPress means that I can’t separate these anymore, so I’m password protecting all archives prior to 2021. Some of these will not be accessible at all, and some of them will be accessible with a password (if you know me, you know the password – it’s what I had planned to major in in college before I came to my senses). Going forward, the categories that require passwords for posts prior to 2021 will not require passwords starting from 2021. At least, that’s how I hope it will work – as I said, I’m still figuring things out.

Let’s do this!
